Hola Mendoza!

What a busy weekend it has been! Friday night we kicked it off with another Coffee Night: selling delicious desserts, a garage sale and obviously having a great time laughing about all the funny videos that were made. Thanks to all of you who joined us this evening, we had a blast! Saturday evening we took off with the Arts ministry to celebrate the International Day of Youth with Christian Values, an initiative of the organisation "OneWorld". Some of us went to San Martin where we presented dramas in Pastor Corvelo´s church and others went to the central square in Rivadavia. There we presented some dramas and performed with the drum line until midnight, when we officially declared the Day (10-10-10). And as a surprise Sabrina spat fire! Sunday the students and staff of the Sports DTS went for a hike in the hills, organised to raise awareness for cancer patients. The students came back tired but satisfied with great and enthusiastic reports! Great job guys! Que fin de semana ...

This past weekend the Baptist Church of Godoy Cruz, or the ¨City´s Church,¨ inaugurated their new worship space in the city center of Mendoza. The new space will be a tremendous blessing as the church works to reach out to people in the heart of Mendoza. The church hopes to reach out to businesses, politicians, families and youth and to mark a difference in the city. We were also blessed with visits from our national director, Alejandro Rodriguez, and from Pastor Nelson, pastor of Martin and Nayda´s church in Puerto Rico. Both men blessed and ministered to our staff and students tremendously during their stay. It is always such a privilege and treat to have our leaders visit and spend time with us! The second level YWAM Frontier Missions School began last week! There are eight students from Argentina, Panama, Ecuador, The U.S., The Netherlands and Kazakhstan. After a three month theory phase the students will go on outreach to Central America or to Asia. La Escuela de Misiones Transculturales de segundo nivel comenzó la semana pasada. Son ocho estudiantes de Argentina, Panamá, Ecudar, EEUU, Holanda y Kazakstan. Despues de una etapa de tres meses de theoria los estudiantes estarán yendo de cruzada o a Centro América o a Asia.

Our female soccer team has been training with a team of ladies in our neighborhood for the past couple of months. The neighborhood team is being coached by a couple of our YWAMers. It´s been a great way for our gals to get to know more women in the neighborhood. Both teams have really enjoyed playing with each other and it´s a great opportunity for our girls to transmit God´s values and principles on the field. This past weekend a ladies soccer tournament was organized between three teams in our neighborhood, called Borbollón. A big group of us headed into the neighborhood to cheer on our YWAM team and to pull for the Borbollón ladies that our YWAMers are coaching. It was a gorgeous day for soccer, not too hot! Our girls took home the winner´s trophy at the end of the tournament as well as a few other special mentions, including ¨top scorer,¨ Belen Mendoza, and ¨best goalkeeper,¨ Em Faber. The Compassion DTS, which started back in April, celebrated their graduation this past weekend. Outreach teams from the DTS reunited in Mendoza after nearly 2 months of practical ministry in Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil and various cities in Argentina. DTS graduations are always bittersweet moments...we celebrate the great things God has done in and through the students lives, but we also say goodbye to those who are returning home! Two students from this DTS are staying to do the second level Frontier Missions School which starts next week. Two other students will be staying on in Mendoza to join our YWAM Mendoza staff family. Over the weekend the YWAM staff (those that were around) gathered for a Family Night. For this family night we broke out the board games, card games, the ping pong table and the foosball table. And what´s a gathering without food? We had yummy sweet treats and hot drinks to keep us going. It was a great time of just hanging out. Este fin de semana pasado, los Jucumeros (los que estaban) se juntaron para una Noche de Familia. Para esta noche de familia sacamos los juegos de mesa, las cartas, la mesa de ping pong y el metegol. Y claro que habia comida! Habian dulces y bebidas calientes para disfrutar. Fue un tiempo muy lindo de comunión entre los Jucumeros.
